Well since the fishing was poor on Baker We decided to go someplace new. Not really having a spot at baker we looked all over for a spot to fit a 33ft motor home which I borrowed from a friend. Roughing it right. We got there sunday the 4th and set up camp checked out the layout and we stayed at the Mossy Rock Camp ground. Fished the east north shore by the damn hwy 12 side. Marked fish from 45-80ft in 100-200ft of water. One rod with pink squid and bait and other with a cha cha type squid in orange pink red yellowish and white. Used shrimp for bait on one and one without. Set at 45 and 50ft got hits on both right away and were small about 10-12inchers put away the bait rubbed on shrimp smelly jelly and chased meter marks searching for bigger fish Averaged 14-15 inchers took one 12 incher due to bleeding bad. 5 nice fish first day and took family out 2nd day with a late start and put 7 in boat before 1 yr old was done. The third day fished in front of the damn near the floats. I was running 6 lbs test on a small pink squid and leader snapped on 2 pulls. I had other side with 8 lbs test and as I tied a new leader with 12 lbs test I got a big hit on the 8. What ever it was, was big and fought hard taking line. After fighting for a bit the line went limp like it was running for the boat. I reeled in fast to find he had snapped 8 lbs test. He could have rolled most were doing that to get off and cut the line but not sure. After gaining myself back from the loss I retied and rigged with 12 lbs test and worked the area until my window of opportunity died out. That third day all my meter marks were in the 60 ft range. I played with several different lures like stick baits and flat fish but got the bigger fish on squids. I tried for craw fish with no luck must have been a bad spot to drop my trap. This is a beautiful lake the camp we were at has cleaning/fillet tables with running water very nice. Lots of camp sites and for the first time in 30+ years they didnt allow camp fires so marshmallow roasting was done on the gas stove. There is good shore fishing at the damn at the Mossy Rock end both sides. The camp site at the othere end starts with a T and has a bridge near a deep trench to fish from. That big fish has me eager to go back for another trip. As for the worms/parasites 3 out the the 17 fish had it. Yuck!. Did take the Fam to the Cowlitz salmon hatchery and got to see them working with springers which was a great treat for the little ones...Ok and me :)
