We took our grandson to Medical today to fish for the rainbows or browns legally. Fished deep with wooleybuggers from 8 to 3. Grandson caught first fish, 20 in rainbow. He ended up with 4 rainbows mostly 19-21 inches with a 16 inch thrown in. He also caught a pretty nice crappie as we ended our day while coming to shore. My wife caught 3- 15, 20in and 20in. All fish released gently and with care and agressively swam away. Took care to land them quickly. As we left a family looked like they were getting ready to fish from shore with worms as they had that white container with them. I wish I had a dollar for every poacher I see there. I really have no faith in calling the poaching line as last time they never showed and the poachers were still fishing when I left 4 hours later!!

A lot of the poachers are indeed guilty at Medical Lake, the family may have been just plain ignorant. Did you happen to talk to them? The West Medical / Medical Lake(s) thing is very confusing to many. Just the use of spinning gear usually gets the locals calling the Poaching Hotline. I and my wife fish legally with spinning gear with artificial lures with barbless hooks and a knotless net. I've been checked by a very professional and polite Warden; whom I suspect responded to a "Poacher Call". Keep calling; I do, but in your situation, I would have politely asked the family..."Do you know this lake is NOT West Medical Lake and you cannot use bait?"

Occasionally when I am by myself, I will innocently query to determine the type of tackle but the family was 100 yard from the parking lot and my wife would not have been happy with me making contact. Something about getting shot or stabbed! Too much media exposure.
