Decided to go for quality rather than quantity. Forsook my favorite lake, Tapps and drove over to American Lake. It didn't let me down. I only caught 7, but four of them were 3 lbs or bigger, with the largest being 3-6. Needless to say, I caught lots of rock bass, and I dispatched every last one of them to the food chain's dinner table. The seagulls and eagles loved me. Because of the rock snot on the bottom, I solely fished a drop shot with one of my home-made 2 1/2 inch swimbaits in watermellonseed. The smaller bass were caught in 21 feet of water, with the larger ones coming from 27 to 31 feet.

Only caught 6? I wish I said that more often. Sounds like a hell of a day to me!

Well, after fishing Tapps for so long when an average day is 15 to 25 smallmouth, I guess I am a bit spoiled. But for American Lake 7 smallies in a day is about average. I honestly believe a person could catch more smallmouth per day from American. But because of the huge population of rock bass the lake has, many times they get to the bait before the bass has a chance. But the real difference between Tapps and American lake is the size of the smallmouth. I can't remember the last time I caught four 3 lb smallmouth in one day. And American Lake has much bigger smallmouth than that. Did you see the photo of the 7-1 smallmouth caught there earlier this year? That's huge on any lake.

Both Tapps and American lake have been on my list of top spots to check out. I keep waiting for some body to list a house for rent on Airbnb.com so I can make a weekend out of it. Yes, I did see that monster. Biggest one I have seen posted on here in the few years I have beer. watching these reports.
