Got to Cda lake this morning at 10:30. We knew the weather report looked pretty bad but after hearing from fellow wa. lakes member dblood about his 55 fish day, I figured we could tough it out for a while and see if we could get into a few pike.
Weather was not too bad when we first arrived, a little rain and slight wind approx. 5-8 mph. Within about 15 minutes we got our first pike, about a 23"er. Then the wind decided to blow. We fished till 2pm and had to head back to the boat launch as the white caps were rolling in pretty heavy with no apparent end in sight. Just turning the boat to head out managed to get all three of us soaking wet when the wave came over the side. At our departure I would estimate the wind was blowing about 25+ mph. There were three of us fishing. One got skunked, one got 1 small pike and I managed 6 pike all in the mid 20's (inches that is) range. I also missed another 10 or 12 fish that rolled hard on the bait but didn't really bite it. I finally located them in a little shallower water than I had previously been fishing, and they were hanging on the very outside of the weed lines. Unfortunately, I landed 4 of my 6 fish within the last 30 minutes of our short outing. Had we gotten a break from the wind at all, I think we would have put a lot more fish in the boat. I still hope to get back out again next weekend and see if they are still fattening up for winter.
All fish were caught on soft plastic frogs in about 7 feet of water. Water temps were 47 to 49 degrees. Weeds are still in very good shape.
