This is my first report on Washingtonlakes.com! I fished Merwin Reservoir from my Hobie Revolution kayak. The weather was decent with overcast skies, occasional light rain, and virtually no wind. My goal was to find some kokanee and I wasn't disappointed. I trolled at 1 to 1.5 mph right out of Speelyai bay. I ran two rods with one long lined 75 feet back with no weight green slingblade flasher with a green hoochie tipped with corn. The other rod was run with a 1 oz weight 50 feet back with an opalescent slingblade and a pink hoochie tipped with corn and filled with krill scent. The bite was consistent but not on fire between 8 and 11 AM and then dropped off. I picked up 3 kokanee on the pink hoochie and 1 rainbow on the green. These were my first kokanee I have ever caught in the PNW so that was pretty exciting. I trolled until 1 PM but never got touched after 11 AM.

I put together a little youtube video from my trip.

Does the kyak have steering via the foot pedals or other method? Also, the yellow rod looks like a Wright and McGill, but morphs into something else? Two rods to make one? Thanks for sharing the on-board experience!

The kayak has a rudder on it that is controlled by a lever on my left. The yellow rod is actually and Eagle Claw "Pack-In" rod that I thought would be fun to catch kokes on since I don't expect them to be very large this time of year. I actually love that rod. I've caught a lot of trout, panfish, and even steelhead on that dinky thing. I never expected a 4 piece rod $20 to last so long. Thanks for the positive feedback too!
