5/10/2014 1:51:00 PMThe population is doing great. I read through the 2013 FWIN put out by the game dept and their net surveys show the walleye numbers have slowly risen in the last three years. There are fewer of the 16 to 24 inch fish, but those years were low spawn years. The lake is full of 12 to 16 inchers and the perch population is also way up so the walleye fishing should be good for a few years. A 19 inch fish is only two years old, so they are growing fast. Having fished that lake my whole life, I have seen the ebb and flows. In 2002, we averaged fish that were 21 inches long. That was a peak year and the fishing steadily declined because those big fish ate up a lot of perch and forage was lean after that year. Prior to that year I caught a lot of perch, and by 2004 I was hardly catching any perch in the lake. Now I am catching lots more perch and more walleye. There just as many fish as ever in the lake right now.
