Long day, but a great fishing day with a pair of wise-cracking friends and co-workers. As I proceeded to miss bites; the pair caught three apiece of the large, mint bright Sprague Lake rainbows. The largest was a 22" ocean silver salmon-like fish, but the other five were in the 19"-19 1/2" range. In spite of my poor hook set timing, I even managed to hook one in a double header fish catching adventure with one of the other anglers. Weather was absolutely PERFECT with plenty of sunshine and very light winds.

Right on T-bone! Sprague is fast becoming a trophy trout fishery. I don't know if you guys C&R'ed, but I know that I will in the future. The fish we caught on 5/1 were beautiful, inside and out, but they tasted HORRIBLE. I grilled mine on the BBQ, just like a Roosevelt rainbow, and before I even took a bite I got a strong whiff. They smelled like swamp water, or Sprague water to be exact and tasted worse.

Spokanee, I left my one with the other two guys; we'll see… I find a lot of the crappy, grassy taste comes from the lack of care after the catch. When my wife and I fish by ourselves; I clean the fish ASAP after catching them and put them on ice. This process takes place while we are still fishing at the lake. My wife just completed smoking a group of fish from Sprague Lake and few from West Medical. On a trial taste, no grassy taste, just DELIOUS, with a nice high oil content. Most of the 5/12 fish were hooked too deeply for release; although we did get one 19"er to swim away.
