Picked up SammamishYak this morning and started fishing at about 8:45AM. Didn't take long to land our first fish. Unfortunately, I hooked a small squaw.

Moved to a different area on the lake and SY gets a perch.

Having a hard time locating the bass. We had several bites, but couldn't connect. Couldn't verify what they were. Also, that cotton wood pollen is all over the lake. Gets caught up on the lines, lures, and eyelets. Very annoying.

Moved to the other side of the lake. Had less cotton on the water there. I finally get that 1st bass at about 11:30AM. 3 hours until a bass, how sad for us, LOL. Just a dink, ~10" SMB on a crankbait. Looked like the bass swiped at it, since it was foul hooked. But it had 2 or 3 buddies chasing him when I caught it. We worked the area hard, but couldn't find them.

About 20 mins later, I get another SMB on a crank. 1lb 4oz? Cant remember the exact ounces now.

I lost a small SMB at boat side, but it wasn't big.

We moved to the other side of the lake again, at my "honey hole". Worked a swimbait around but nothing was happening there.

We tried dropshot, swimbaits, cranks, spinnerbait and football jigs.

A bit aways from my honey hole, I get a okay SMB on a swimbait. 1lb 14oz.

Unfortunately, times up and SY left without a bass today, but it was very nice out.

Then I picked up my wife at the beach. She wanted to have a picnic on the water by bringing lunch.

So since we're about to eat. I decided to drop the trolling rod in, with a wedding ring and see what happens. Before I could even get the sandwiches out, we get a strike on the rod. Fish on! But it was obviously a small fish. I handed the rod to the wife to "catch" it. A little shiny 10" trout, lol.

Continued the trolling and ate up. No more action on that.

So we started working the docks and I get a strike on my swimbait. It wasn't a hard strike. Just felt light pressure. Even with the hook set, didn't feel like anything at all. Until several seconds trying to reel it in, the drag starts screaming. Sweet! I get a flash of the fish and see it's a nice SMB. Biggest I've seen all year. The wife attempts to net it a couple of times, but misses. Wrangle it into the net finally. 19"@ 3lb 5oz. Very skinny. Looks post spawn I guess.

We bounced from spot to spot and get several more. 1 on a mid diving crank. Rest on swimbaits. I think 5 SMB. Size ranged from 10-14". One of those SMB, had 2 other buddies with it. The larger of the 2 kept trying to steal the lure out of the hooked fish's mouth. It was a bold MFer. I had the fish at boat side and letting it swim around. That big fish was hanging around for a good 15-20 secs before it gave up. Even after 2 attempts at trying to net that free swimming fish, LOL.

Unfortunately, the wife didn't get a SMB today, and she was disappointed. She so wants that bass! I try my best to position the boat for it and even give first casts are fishy spots...

Eventually, we started trolling again for about an hr with a crank and wedding ring, while packing up and just enjoying the view. Had a couple of strikes, but didn't stick.

So caught 8-10 SMB today. Long day on the water, but it was relaxing and good company.

I once hooked a 4-2 smallie in the back with a crankbait. Lord God, I thought I hooked the north end of a freight train going south. By the way, do you mind me asking a couple questions about your swimbait? One, is it a paddle-tailed swimbait? Two, do you just use a steady retrieve? And three, do you use a belly-weighted hook, or a jig-type head. And, lastly, do you have colors you favor over others. The reason I'm asking is I've been fishing the living bejesus out of my 3 1/2 inch swimbaits both for large and smallmouth, and they look great coming through the water, but I can't catch a bass on them for the life of me. Any imfo would be greatly appreciated.

It was nice to get out there... (Even though I got smoked by FF). I simply swung late and whiffed a few nice opportunities to connect on the bites I had.

But... Its always a great opportunity fish with another angler who considers Sammamish their "home lake" as well. FF is very focused, methodical, and sharp with his approach. Wish I was there to have witnessed the big one.

Its GREAT blasting across the water with the outboard, feels like swarp speed compared to the paddle pace im used to.
