Melanie and I decided to go to Lake Quinault again as the Chehalis River has a lack of fish and high water temps.Fishing was good,we caught 7 Dollies and 3 cutthroat trout. Dollies were a good size with 4 at around 3 lbs. each. Cuts were average size, between 12 and 14 inches, but tasty! I hooked a really nice fish at the end of the day, after 2 minute or so of fighting while boat was still under way he came undone, upon reeling in I had this sockeye puppy on with some SERIOUS holes in his sides. I can't believe how long this Dolly(?) held on pulling line and 5 or 6 intense pulls a second or two apart only to let go.I've had lings hold onto fish like this before but never a dolly. I've had this happen before with Dollies but only a vicious strike at an under-sized fish, no extended fight. Don't know when salmon will be in the river in numbers, but if it doesn't happen soon the tribe and non tribal gill-netters will decimate the run outside of the river and the rec. fisherfolk will get screwed again.
