Tried for smallmouth and it was slow. Figured out the pike had taken over the Sportsman's area. I landed 4 pike up to 15lbs, had 2 bite-offs, and I saw at least 10 followers. They seem to be booming these past couple years. They will impact the bass fishing, so keep them if you catch them or feed them to the crawdads!

Feed them to the crawdads? Pike is absolutely delicious; rolled in cornmeal and deep fried, it just about beats any other fish. A 15 pounder makes quite a fish fry. Quite possibly my favorite eating fish.

Thanks for the report. I went to long lake only once this year to try for perch or bass with the kids. Perch were smaller than the year before and I was wondering what the hell was big and zipping around the top once in a while. Whats the best Pike rig, I'll get them out of there for you!

Yearofthecraig: I wouldn't eat anything out of that lake!

Smokercraftman: Suspending jerkbaits w/ thin nylon-coated steel leader, twitched frantically with short pauses. Colder water= slower twitches & longer pauses.
