We decided we'd better get up to Rattlesnake Lake before the emergency regulations end and it reverts to catch and release. We thought we'd be lucky to catch a trout, since the 10 fish limit has been in place for 3 months. We couldn't have been more wrong! We paddled our inflatable kayak out from the boat launch and got bites right away. It was our first time fishing with selective gear, but it didn't take long to figure it out. I had 3 fish on the stringer in the first 15 minutes. We paddled all over the lake, netting 16 trout. All of them were in the 12-13 inch range - the slender steelhead ex-smolts planted last fall. The only reason we came off the lake before we both limited was because we were getting too cold and wet. All in all, it was a great day and a good way to put my new rod and reel thru its paces.
