Left Seattle early Saturday under a light snow. There was snow on the road down by Belfair and only got worse the closer to Cady we got. 3/16 - Stared fishing at 0730. Water temp. 40 / 41. Decided to fish WB, leeches, sculpins deep. Nothing deep. Switch to a chronies and immediately was into a fish, then, of course, no further action. There were fish rising and there were some midges on the surface and another small bug, size 44(?. After a lunch break, back on the lake. Fish still rising. Finally started getting fish on an emerger. The best fishing was during a heavy snow, which made if difficult to see the fly. Two of us ended the day with 10 fish, not that good but better than others on the lake. Biggest was 26".
This had it all - snow, heavy at times, hail, some wind & one short sunny spot.
On 3/17, hit the lake again about 0730. Tried deep again, nothing - not even hits. Went back to the chronie and had two fish on two successive casts - then nothing. Slow again throughout the day. Then had some fast action casting a chronie, on floating line to rising fish and they were "slamming" it! Picked up (6) in about 45 minutes. The weather was much better today, but it is all relative and couldn't get much worse than on Saturday.
Spoke with Larry. He is going to discontinue the fishing report box due to lack of participation. Also, be sure to put a few bucks in the pot to support this fishery. It's unique and only takes a little effort on our part to support it.
