What a great day at Loon with Captain Dave Grove and Rob from NW Fishing Reports. We got started around nine on the North end of the lake. Made a couple of passes trolling in 30 to 40' of water with a mix of tackle. Caught a couple of kokanee after four or five "drive bye's" as they said good bye very soon after taking the presentation. Kokanee are big on the hit and leave sometimes.

We decided to leave the spot we we were fishing for greener pastures when I was watching the rod on Rob's side of the boat slam down and head for the bottom of the lake. It was hit so hard it looked like a salmon take down. Rob grabbed the rod and my little Shimano Cardiff 100 (the smallest one they make) was just screaming. Yikes we were in danger of being spooled. Dave handled his rods like the pro he is and I cleared mine so we could concentrate on the bog fish Rob had. Oh no Dave took out his salmon net and we didn't have a smaller one in the boat.......we can do this he said as Robs arms were getting tired from this giant "kokanee" he had on. This was not a kokanee for sure and didn't fight like a trout; maybe a laker? Somewhere between 15 and 20 minutes the fish was tired out and we got to see the beautiful Lake Trout on the little shrimp fly Dave had on the line when Rob put it out. Dave manages to get the big fish by the tail and into the boat it comes. I thought Rob was going to collapse from all of the adrenalin he had in him! What a fish 13#, a real beauty.

Finished out the day with 20 kokanee and the huge Mack. A fun day for all of us.

Captain Dave is a good friend and great fisherman. Give him a call if you want to catch those Brewster Sockeye in July.

PS take a look at Rob's report to see the pics of the fish - Alan

13 lb laker. Awesome! Do you recall where you were trolling? Deep south side of the lake by the island etc. Also how fast? Im assuming your speed was Kokanee speed. I've been trying to catch one of these fish but haven't any luck. Thank you for any info!
