Got on the water at 6am but only had 3 hours to kill. Fishing was slow & the largemouth still haven't moved up in any numbers yet. Saw a few 2 - 3 lbers spooking from the dollar pads that are just now starting to break the surface. There could be a few Largies on beds under docks but not in their usual spawning bays, I didn't even see a largemouth bed today. I did see some smallmouth on beds & ended with 6 SMB, the biggest about 2 1/2 lbs & 1 LMB about 1 3/4 lbs. Spent a lot of time just looking at the HDS 7 and marking coordinates to promising new spots to try out this summer. Got the SMB on a shadow rap & the LMB on jig. Sorry the pic is terrible I suck at trying to get me & the fish in the frame

Mtngrizz here again, looks like the Lake is still not active yet. When out 1 week ago I marked many many fish but nothing active until late in the day after the winds subsided. Your success the same as mine, I had one very small LMB and 2 SMB shy of 14 inches. Found all of mine off the North shore. If I may ask, what part of the lake did you target? Maybe these 80 degree days will wake up the lake. Success to you in the future. Mtngrizz

Hey MtnGrizz- I started off throwing a jerkbait on the big gravel flats out in front of the public access, then ran north to the narrows & tried a couple traditional largemouth spawning areas with no luck. I did see a few pretty nice LMB up shallow, so their beds should start to appear any day. The water temps were between 62-65 degrees. On the way back to our dock I stopped & fished around Deer lake resort because you said you'd some luck over there. That's where I picked up the lone largemouth 15" & one tiny SMB only about 6". I caught three 16-18 inch smallmouth on the flats close to a area that drops off from 5 to 12 feet. All year it's been super windy at Deer lake-- about a month ago I was getting blown across the water at 7 mph with (2) 15 lb anchors down. One of em has prongs to help it grab hold of bottom & it got snagged on a underwater cable & I had to cut my anchor line! I am waiting for the water to warm up enough so I can dive in & retrieve it. It's only in 6 FOW but at the time the water was only 56 degrees & I wasn't gonna do the polar bear plunge for a $35 anchor.
