Riffe Lake ADVENTURE 7-13-15

My plan was to go to the Kosmos Launch on Riffe Lake. Kim (pinkpole)and I got there around 7am. We were the only ones in the lot. I found that my trailer light plug was on the ground. We checked my lights before we left so I know it was in then. It must have come out after turning in Morton on to 12 because it wasn’t too beat up. There wasn’t a green wire at the plug anymore and the white insulation was half gone.

It wasn’t too bad of a launch but it was shallow, according to my fish finder, for quite a ways out while my it worked. It quit about 5 minutes after that. Same issue as last week. I am writing this up while I wait for Lowrance customer service to answer. It will be sent back to be tested. $19.20 to mail it back to them for warranty work.

I went down the lake (toward the dam) a while and it got choppy but the boat did nicely. There I found a point of land and went in towards shore hoping for less chop which was what happened. I stopped and got the downriggers ready. Then I went to start the kicker and it would not start. I pulled and Kim pulled. It refused to start. I told Kim to get a rod ready and we could see if the wind could push us and she could troll. We were moving to slow.
We decided to go back to the launch. Making pretty good time when the big motor starts to sputter and then died. Out of gas. Kim offered a water bottle to cut for a funnel and we poured the gas from the kicker tank to the big motor tank. Got going again and it started to die once more. I got out the paddles and we started paddling. This was going to take forever. There was a little gas left so we poured what was left into the tank and I tried to start it. It wasn’t starting. Then Kim noticed that there was gas spurting out of the hose at the motor. She pushed it back on and I fired it up. I raced back to the launch. We beached and I said “Thank you, Jesus.” I felt like kissing the ground.
I think we left about 10:30.
The water temperature, while the fish finder worked, was 74.

That is not the way you want a fishing trip to go. Though, it reads similarly to the kind of trip good ol' IceShark (RIP) might have had.

Hello Toni I see you had some minor malfunctions with the equip and so on, I to do remember going through those moments on the water or at launching too, After several dumb mistakes and forgetting to check things or thinking all was in order , decided to start using a check list as well as running all motors on the trailer before heading out to the lake . Some times this really helps to ensure a fun and no pain fishing trip ,
although we can't always see things before they happen a review of what you have sure will make a difference . THE CHECK LIST
In time it will become memory and everything goes smoothly . Hey my last trip out had a broken fuel line at the motor right in the middle of the lake with my pole in one hand and gas pouring into the bottom of the boat , Thinking oh swell ending up having to row back to the launch only to head back home . NEXT TIME !

One possibility for the trailer light to truck light plug coming undone is to little slack in the connection for a left or right turn. Turning to one direction will cause slack, while the opposite turn could pull the connection apart as it takes up all available slack. Just a thought, since your sure the male and female plug connections were attached at one point, but found apart when arriving at your destination. The missing green wire could be from snapping under stress during a turn that takes up slack in the plug wire connection.

Motoboat. Yes it came loose and fell out. Lots of turns and bumps. Missing green wire was worn away by the friction of meeting the road.
Grennboater what did I forget? I checked my gas before I left. My problem is I don't know how far a tank will last.
