Monday was too stormy to fish, with the wind gusts. Tuesday I started with chronomids. Not action and saw little by others so tried intermediate line with a Denny Rickard's Stillwater nymph. This worked well. In afternoon tried Aeneas lake near Tonasket for the first time. The wind came up and made it very difficult to fish. Trolled the shore and had one strike. A deep lake for being so small. Those old timers fishing the lake as I came out favored chironomids I noticed. Thursday was a very productive day. Using stillwater nymph was still working well. Found stripping line about 20 to 30 feet from shore worked the best. That was in about 6 feet of water. About 1 PM the fish started to feed on surface but there wasn't any adult duns hatching. Tried a newly tied dry that another fisherman had showed me the day before that worked well for him. I had a couple of hits but little interest. I tied on a CDC emerger and right away the fish started slamming the fly. It was great fun until my supply of CDC's got too wet to float. It seemed most fishermen were using either chironomids or dries. It seemed like a big mistake to me. Also, in evening when fish were slurping on surface, I tied on a soft hackle emerger and trolled it across the lake, picking up a few in the process.
