So I have property at Lake Cushman and I really enjoy fishing in the early AM. Some days are hit and miss but the scenary and silence makes up for the misses. When I first started fishing Cushman I started with green wedding rings and a worm and about 10 feet deep. I would troll on the northern edge at about 1.5 to 2 MPH and catch 2-5 fish in a few hours.

My goal is to catch the larger ones so I started to research how to catch Kokanee and started using a down rigger with an Apex lure at 25 feet. This method worked good but not as good as the wedding rig method. So I did more research and have found that using an 8" green or pink flasher with the Apex lure (I think is too small for my objective) really catches the fish averaging 9"-12" and I troll at .9 MPH (speed determined by a GPS app on the phone). My depth ranges from 30-50 feet as determined by the fisher finders average fish depth.

The bait that I use now is shoe peg corn soaked with minced garlic. Evidently the fish can smell it and and don't like the smell. It works...

I will close this post with a simple statement of this lake is hard to work, and I have been skunked more than my share of times, but with that said, the lake is awesome to fish and scenery is above all. Get off the lake when the skiers wake up.

Thanks for sharing your report. Usually when the bite is slow I'll pull out early and just limit on rainbows down at lake Kokanee. I've heard about decent fishing at standstill lake as well just off the bank but I haven't tried it yet.

earlier this year I took the boat to Kokanee but the launch was blocked off, so back to Cushman it was. I also have heard the same about Standstill, which I should try this weekend.
