With a forecast for clear skies, and light winds, I loaded my 14' boat into my 5th wheeler, and headed for Steamboat State Park at Banks Lake. While driving there, my son Shane called. Upon learning where I was headed, he invited himself to come friday night with
my bigger boat, and fish on Saturday with me. Gloria and I fished friday afternoon at Barker Flats, catching 5 Walleyes, and a really nice Berbut 40-50 feet of water, slow death hooks, and 2 hook rigs, gold/black smile blade, and bodies. On Saturday, Shane and I fished Rufus Woods Lake, catching, and releasing over 30 trout, using about anything one wanted to cast, while running the the electric motor a little slower than the current, along the shoreline. We never lost sight of the Seaton Grove Boat Launch. When the current was moving fast we caught a lot of 2.5 to 3 pounders. When it slowed down we still caught fish, but they were about 1.5#, and further away from the bank. We went back to camp for lunch, at 3:00 pm went back out to Barker Flats, and caught 4 more Walleye, doing the same as previously mentioned. On Sunday, Gloria, and I headed to Lake Roosevelt in search of big kokanee. With the Keller Ferry boat parking lot over half full, I headed up lake to where I had heard the Silver Bullets were. To my dismay there were only 3 boats insight. After 3 hours and catching the biggest walleye of the trip down only 9' in 50' of water. I put on a pink wiggle hootchie tipped with pink corn, and Pro Cure Kokanee Scent, 22" behind ooo Gold Star dodger, 130' behind the boat in 30' of water at 1.4 mph . Game On. Done in less than 45 minutes, they all were within a 0.5 inch of each other. Monday not so good, tried to catch and release some big Walleyes below Grand Coulee Dam, but the water was running to fast, no success. A couple observations, I saw over a hundred Walleye at the Banks Lake cleaning station, and lots of limits. I did not see a fish over 19", and most were much smaller. The Crappie are biting, fish the pond in the new portion of the state park with a pink micro jig 4' down from a bobber, and you get some nice eating Crappie.
