This is a fishing report for the long weekend of the Chelan Get-together. I fished Friday afternoon solo, Saturday morning (until 9:30am) with my friend Rob and his daughters, and Sunday until early afternoon, solo.

The highlight of the trip was getting to use my new boat for the first time. JoAnn and I decided to sell the Seaswirl as it was getting too difficult bringing the dogs in through the bow . We’d talked about upgrading for a while and decided to pull the trigger on a 20 foot Thunderjet Luxor. After fishing for the weekend I can say this is the beginning of a long and beautiful friendship!

Friday was more of a shakedown run than anything else. It was the middle of the afternoon and no fish were caught. I was trolling with standard kokanee gear.

Saturday morning we hit the water from 6am to 9:30 (had to get back to help set up for the Get-together). We hit a kokanee right away at 60 feet on the rigger, and my guests kindly let me catch the first fish of the new boat. An 11” kokanee, boat is now properly christened in fish blood. After that we had no luck, and I didn’t see much action around us.

Sunday, Rob couldn’t get his girls to wake up so cancelled. I had the day and the boat to myself. As I got used to everything my comfort level was better and I managed to have an “OK” day, catching 4 koks and losing 2. A couple 14-15” fish were a welcome sign that Chelan still has some good fish. I caught most fish at 70, 90, and 105 feet. I had no luck trying early AM shallow.

All in all, a great weekend of comradery and new boat time!

I see the new boat is just Duckey Mike. Glad you got the first blood on it! A new boat must be christened correctly; nothing better than kakanee blood. Thanks to you and the NWFR team for a great event. By the way the fish has one of the new Mack's kokanee lures stuck in it's face. Many thanks to all of the sponsors too.
