I got off work early today so decide to eat then load the boat and head to Lake Cassidy to see if I can extend my big bass streak. Arrived at the lake 5:30 pm and fished until dark. Got at the lake and clouds were threatening but looked like it wouldn't rain but was windy...headed down the shoreline to my favorite hot spots...

Tossed the top water minnow had a couple of bluegill hits but first hour no fish and no rolls...went into channel by boat dock saw some fish moving couple small rolls but no fish...might be a tough day...still windy on the lake so treked at full throttle to other side of the lake and work the shallows...still getting blown all over so sat in the pads and cast to openings bite, roll, tap, pop yep that's a crappie bite...next cast bam fish on whoa big crappie! Lippable Crappie 12" and very wide. There goes the skunk at about 6:40pm. Well, still windy so worked the pads sitting in them and casting to the reeds and openings in the back...roll, fish on, fish off...move down some more nice roll big hit set the hook fish on! Oh, this one's a leaper! 3ft jump and get him to the boat nice 11" feisty Bass. Had a couple more bites and lots of line issues today...put new line on my spinning reel and was Charlie Brown fishing...more line at the bottom of the boat then I like. Finally, had enough and decided to just use my buzzbait and bait cast reel...a wise decision...about 4th cast to the back and moving past last set of pads bam fish on!!!!!!!! BIG ONE!!! I didn't have much line out so had to play him a bit and he almost snapped me twice but got him turned and lipped him...get the photos selfie and just fish....ok tape measure...measure twice 18"!!! That ties my biggest buzzbait fish ever! And missed my last weeks record at Lake Cassidy by 1/2". Had one other hit on buzzbait but he missed it. Headed home hard day of fishing only landed 3. 18" by 5.5" wide bass, 11" bass and 12" Crappie. I did lose one other big bass in pads on top water minnow tried to horse him out and he got off.

Glad I stuck it out. And big bass streak continues last 3 times out at Lake Cassidy.

All fish caught photographed and released to fight again another day.

Good luck out there.

James

A three pounder is big enough to make any bass angler smile! Good detailed report!

My personal lake record for Cassidy is 4 pounds, 2 ounces. That fish hit a white spinnerbait on Oct. 01, 1983. Pic on Cassidy Lake info.

That's a big one Bob! My first big 19" was also in October on a white spinner bait at Sunday Lake...ended up with 10 fish over 14" (back when it was slotted 12-15") in 1987 biggest fish I ever saw! 4lbs +4 rest were all on a buzz bait.

I have fished Sunday a few times but never caught any as big as yours. Sounds like you are into keeping bass fishing records too. Keep it up - they are nice memories when you get old like me.

Yep I keep track in my WA fishing book of each lakes biggest bass and did I mention I am very competitive? Gives me something to shoot for. Not sure I will ever beat my most ever in a day 117 Bass but got over 80 last year...so you never know.

OK James, here is something to shoot for. I have caught bass (largemouth or smallmouth) from 276 different lakes and sloughs in Washington State. Sure in many of the lakes the fish were small but in one lake connected to the Columbia River I caught an 8 pound 4 ounce largemouth. A scale sample showed she was 15 plus years old at the time I caught her. As to a daily record - Your 117 would be hard to beat now days - I have had a few over 50 fish a day but usually loose track of the numbers after a dozen or so..

Yeah I had to write them down to count that high. Well, at age 52 I think I better just shoot for every lake in Snohomish and Skagit County that has bass. Think I have fish over 40. But tend to stick to a handful. I had none stop action for about 3 hours when I hit the record I was laughing at the end. But over 50 is not uncommon every year for me just have to hit it right on top water. Even Cassidy I finally got in the 20's per day on a lot of the days I was out there last year. That is a huge fish Bob. 4lbs 19" by 7" wide is my record didn't have a digital scale so was probably over 4lbs...even lived in Arkansas for year and half and 18" was biggest I managed there...I had one hit my buzzbait and go left and kept going until he snapped my 6lb test so he had to be 12lbs easy LOL. Never saw him. I have caught two on same cast three times. One on each hook on the rapala. Fun times. I want to try some new lakes this year and Terrell was one I managed this year probably hit McMurray, Clear Lake, Cottage and Lake Joy this year. But we shall see Cassidy is producing for me so until that dies out might be there for a while. Good luck out there.

My Snohomish County record is 31 lakes & Skagit County is 11 lakes. Best Snohomish fish was at Silver Lake - 22 inches, 6 pounds and 4 ounces. That fish hit a Rapala 11 S on August 20, 1983. Best Skagit bass was at Beaver Lake - 21 inches, 5 pounds, 11 ounces. That fish hit a Rapala 11G on April 13, 1985.

Those are some big fish...I only use size 7 Rapala might be time to try a bigger one. If I go down size #5 I get more fish...that is what I set the record on.
Beaver lake I have been to before fish are very pale there. Need to try it again this year but usually windy there in afternoons when I can fish.

And my big bass streak ends at 3 times out...went yesterday evening only got one on buzz bait 10.5" and had two others on and didn't see any big rolls like before. Didn't get a lot of action on top water minnow just some crappie hits and only few bass bites.
