Another Baker lake skunk for me. Me and a buddy fished Saturday and Sunday, not even a bite. I had high hopes that my third year up there would yield some better results. I went in my buddies boat, instead of my pontoon, and I had a little downrigger to help with depth control, but that did not change the result.
It seems like we had all the gear setup like everyone else, we tried everything we could think of. Talking to the other boaters it seemed pretty slow (unless your name is DJButler!). Probably will have to wait for next year for the next chance.
Maybe one of these years I will have a fish to go with the hundreds of dollars in gear I have bought.

It's tough but stick with it. You will over come, watch the water levels when you see a bump everyday like the last few weekends that turns off the bite. DJbutler is a special guy we all know. Hope your luck changes soon there is still time left.

What's up with Baker Lake & Sockeye fishing? I'm seeing reports with 5 stars, 1 stars?? Seems like some ppl have that fishery down or what? Went out last Fri. EARLY 4am-12pm & We only managed to get 1 for 8hrs of constant fishing (I know, some ppl haven't even got that)..

Tried almost everywhere, different setups, pull-backs, depths, colors, baits..Are We missing something...?? I know the water level has been changing, A lot of debris, A lot of Pressure, All sorts of weather.
At one point we were tailing this one boat for a few that was hooking up 3 times within 20 mins.? They must've been doing something right.

Thoughts? Ideas? Tactics? I've been reading All the reports..

Hunter757, thanks for the encouraging words, that first fish will taste like gold if it ever comes. Water came up Sunday and there were logs everywhere, but there seemed to be one to two fish for lots of boats unlike Saturday when it was a skunk fest, besides the above mentioned slayer DJ.
Sergiu when you find out what we are doing wrong let me know!

Been up to Baker a couple of times this season. My first two times, ever. Went 1/4 the first and 0/2 the second. I've found the fish are active biters from 6-8am. After that it's been tough. Fished at 35' and 55'. I had the best luck at 50'+. I marked several fish between 80-100'. I've noticed a majority of boats along both east and west shorelines, I've found the middle of the lake to be pretty productive. Like many, I've tried this lake based on number of sockeye, increased limit, and past reports. I've found this fishery to be... inconsistent. Was hoping for a little more consistency.
I've fished with DJ several times, I think fishing styles:driving styles. Everyone's is slightly different, and yield different results.

We got 8 before 6AM, and total 14 by 1PM on 8th. However, we got only 2 and one rainbow on 12th. I was asking myself what is the difference. The only answer is - I was able to locate the fish on 8th and hardly seen any on 12th. Where is the fish?

I told you DJ!!! You be making people pull their hair out lol!!! I've learned to stop worrying so much about what D.J. or other people are doing. And I mean that in the nicest way. I've tried to mimic what some people are doing until I'm blue in the face with no success. This year was my third year trying and just got my first fish. Just like any fishery it takes trial and error plenty of experience. Keep pounding water and sending a variety of set ups down. Switch your speed up switch your leader lengths up. Just keep at it buddy and once you find something that works it will all be worth it!! Good luck to ya!!!

With all the rain that has come into the lake the fish only hold in the lake for so long and then head up the cold rivers. I don't really think the fish just stay in the lake for a long period of time, so do but most I would say hi tail it for the rivers. Now the lake going up and up and up does not help I really wish PSE would keep it steady for a few weeks, I know its not easy but they know what is coming in the lake so open the gates and let it go. I have only fished this lake a few times and spent way to many hours vs the fish I took home. Keep pounding the water and hope your lure finds fish.

I noticed that last few days almost no fish made it back, must be netting the river. Only a few fish per day when it should have been hundreds/thousands. I am sure that did not help my chances. Maybe I will have another chance at them later this year if work does not get in the way.

Hang in there brotha, it will turn on for you. Think outside the box, run short leaders and fish away from crowds. Plenty of fish in the lake!
