This is my first post on here. I have read hundreds though. I figured I should share this. So my wife and I were bored and decided to hit Liberty Lake for a few hours. We got there about noon and it was hot so the bite was slow. I did get a few 1-2 pound large mouth bass on deep diving perch colored lures.

My wife started using worm and bobber around 6pm. It was starting to cool off and we were across the lake from the launch. She casted next to some rocks on the bank that had an under water shelf. Her bobber went under fast and deep. I was thinking big bass but the fight was strange. The fish just refused to come up. Her drag was kind of light and the fish was running. She adjusted the drag and horsed the fish up to the surface. I called out, "you got yourself a carp or sucker.

To my surprise she pulled up a nice catfish. The tail was forked like a channel cat but I was doubtful. She ended up catching another one, both were pregnant and about the same size.

I didn't think there were any channel cats in liberty. I didn't think they could spawn in lakes. But I guess they are in there. We caught several average bass in the evening and several bluegills.

It was a good day on the lake and I have been planning to go to the snake to catch some channels. But we got them 20 minutes away.

Hi fishfinder77. I grew up in the south and can definitely tell you that was a channel cat. They really get active at night, especially when
twilight is just settling in. They really turn on then!

I've been to liberty a few times, where did you manage to pick up that bass?

robl6583 I have been finding quite a few nice bass across from the boat launch and to the left. There is a about 5 docks before you reach the marsh part of the lake. I do really well fishing that shore line from the loch ness monster to the marsh area. Evening and morning seems to be the best times. There are some big bass in there.

Fishfinder77, Thanks, Is liberty more of a plastics lake or crank bait? Now I have to test the waters :)

I do better with crank baits. I did try a plastic worm on a drop shot set up but just kept catching crappie which is cool too.
