Cloudy morning. Only 2 other trailers at the launch!

Northern half of the lake had a layer of fog.

Started fishing at about mid lake at a point. Realize I forgot my sunglasses, bummer since I knew this cover would get burn off in a bit.

Started off with a swimbait. After about 15 mins, I get my first solid bite and it turns out to be a squawfish! I'm not sure when was the last time I caught one. It's been a while. I hear an eagle overhead and see it perched up there. I'm thinking perfect! I pierced the fish through it's head, thinking I got it's brain. It stops moving so I'm thinking it's dead. I tossed it for the eagle and next thing I know, the damn fish swims away! Sorry squaw. Sorry eagle.

Continue along the bank without much activity besides small bluegills and perch nipping away. I move out into deeper water.

Get a fish on, but knew it was small. Turns out to a dink SMB. I continue following this break. So I've been fishing for about 30-45 mins without much to show for it.

I figure, time to use the dropshot. First cast, fish on! First decent fish of the day. About a 1.75-2# SMB. Nice. I think I caught 5 or 6 in a 15 min window along this area with the drop shot. It was fast and furious. All about the same size. Ranging from 1.5-2.25. Continue along and caught a few more. I toss the DS down and after a couple of seconds, feel another bite. Set the hook and knew it was a good one. This sucker is not coming up. When they don't come up, they are instantly 3+ in my experience. There's nothing to get snagged on to my knowledge, so I was just taking my time. Let the run down there and just maintained pressure. I pinched my barbs for easy release. Anyways, after what felt like an eternity, I finally get color and see it's a big LMB! I can see it flexing it's jaw to try and get loose. Continued playing it and got it into the net! Pretty sure biggest fish this year so far. 4.54#! Looking at that thing! LOL.

Caught a couple more SMB in the area that had to have been right at about 2# or slightly more. By now, it's 9:45AM and the cloud is just about turned off with the sun coming through. It seemed to have shut the bite down in the area bc I didn't get a bite in over 5 mins, lol. Not even a nibble from the bait fish. As I'm about to give up, I get another bite. I set the hook and break off! Damn it, knew I should have retied after so many fish. What a noob!

No more activity after about 15 mins, so I decide to check out another point further north. Along the way, I decide to hit fart hole quickly to see if anything is there. First cast with DS and it's a biggun! It digs down and stays down! Wont come up. I work it towards the back of the boat just playing with it. Still haven't seen it and it's not coming up at all. Then slack! WTF! I reel in and see my setup is still intact. It just somehow popped off. You win some, you lose some. But man, I wanted to see how big that one was too! I spent about 15 mins making several more casts. BAM! Get another decent fish SMB. 2.84#. Not bad at all. I didn't want to hammer fart hole too much at the moment, so I took off to my original destination I was heading to.

As I'm getting near the point, I stop off along a deep structure, ~40' that I've caught a couple SMB before. I tossed a heavy football jig first. Feel a couple small nips, but no hookup. Toss down the trusty old DS and as soon as it hit the bottom, I could see my line acting funny. Reel in slack and set the hook, fish on! Bah, just a dink. Toss at a different angle and I feel this bite and fish on. Maybe a 1#. Fan casting and now I'm casting out of the back of the boat. Feel the bite and set the hook! Feels like a nice one. I can feel it's a decent bass, but doesn't feel like a biggun. Well, to my surprise, it was pretty big, lol. 3.38#. Nice, 3 fish on this structure in short order. After that, no more bits, so I go to the point. Only caught me a handful of dinks and a rock bass. The rock bass was actually a pretty big one. Very feisty too.

Time to head back in, but I decide to stop off at fart hole again and see if I can get that biggun to bite. 5 casts, 4 fish. Nothing big though. All about 1# and smaller. Caught a few more closer to 1.5#. A couple more at about 2#. Topped off with a 5" LMB on a football and called it a day.

Over 20+ bass again. With 2 confirmed good ones. A missed opportunity on another good one. Handful or a little bit more in the 2# class. I don't care of those 1-1.5# are small. They sure are fun still. But man, I'm going through baits like crazy. 2-3 packs each outing.
