This will be a short report because I am on my buddy's fancy phone that is a pain to type on! Day one of a three day lingcod opening weekend fishing trip. No lings today, but we took a nice black rockfish each using 2-inch Berkeley power grubs (we were actually tageting greenling). Fried them up Cajun-style in our hotel room. They were great! Looking forward to catching the evening tide tomorrow!

nice sea bass. They usually hang in schools - did you find a nice school off the jetty?

Cheap motel at the ocean, with a kitchenette for your catch. Good times for sure. That is the kind of thing I like to do. NIce looking fish, hope you find some lings, and let us know.

1) Yes. We missed a couple too-- the rockfish seemed to be thick but roaming all weekend!
2) No lings... only downside of the trip-- I'm not sure how much it messes with their bite, but the water visibility seemed very unusually low all weekend. I think erosion is speedy up out there again.
3) Have a blast schu7498!
4) Thanks!

I'll post the report for the following days when my buddy shoots the pictures over!

new to the WA were are the jetties located. I live in Spokane and grew up in Southern Cal.and fished mainly in the ocean and would like to head to the ocean this summer with my daughter and do some fishing.

Welcome to WA sharkbait2! We don't have a lot of great jetties in my opinion. Westport is certainly the mecca of the state for both surfing and jetty fishing though. The "South Jetty" located at Westhaven State Park is hands down #1; if you're willing to rock-hop rockfish, lingcod, kelp greenling, cabezon and redtail surfperch can be taken. Even if you fish at the base of the jetty you can get into fish on a good day. Westport also has about half a dozen finger jetties to protect the town. They sometimes contain smaller rockfish, but are much less work to move around on. There are also jetties in Ocean Shores, La Push, Neah Bay, and Sekui. But they are pretty weak in comparison to the South Jetty as far as size and fishing opportunity go. Westport also has a Fishing Board Walk. Not much caught there on a regular basis-- you could get a dogfish for fun though; or target pile perch.
