Fished for sturgeon for the first time. Started out at Priest Point out of Ebey Slough. We were the first boat on the water, about midway between the high and low tides (outgoing). Found a spot in the channel, anchored up, and plopped our sandshimp in the water. Right off the bat, had something gnawing on the hook pretty good, but no hookup...could've just been a large bullhead or other bottom dweller. Rest of the morning was very, very quiet. About 6 other boats joined us just before low tide, all within about a quarter mile of our position. The entire morning/early afternoon, we saw only 1 boat have anything that remotely looked to be a sturgeon on. Their pole was bent over like a rainbow for a few minutes, but then nothing...either got off or maybe they were snagged up. None of the other boats had anything going on. Decided to pack it up midway through the incoming tide and go check out Kayak Point/Stillaguamish River delta. Talked with a nice fellow at the launch who had fished the morning low tide. Nothing for him. He saw one boat with a sturgeon on, but that was it. He was fishing the channels in the Stilly delta it sounded like. We launched and did a little prospecting to get a feel for the next time out. Was tough to find the channels, as it was now high tide. We anchored up in about 10 feet of water for about an hour. Caught (and released) a couple pesky crab, but no sturgeon. We'll try again in the next week or so. Anyone got tips how/where to fish the Stilly delta area? Is it best to stay south and east, kinda near Warm Beach, or should we head up north and west? How about Prist Point? I've got a 17' fiberglass prop boat, so can't get in water less than about 2 feet. Any tips would be appreciated.
