Day started out with a pretty interesting spectacle, someone launching their ~22-24' Trophy made a cardinal error....unhooked his safety chain and winch strap at the top of the launch....boat was on roller bunks....boat hit the deck about ~10' short of the water and rolled onto it's left side....let the cluster begin. Fortunately for everyone in line and this boat owner it worked out better then expected, they were able to hook it back up to the trailer winch and bring in a truck with a winch, combined that with ~10 guys and they were able to muscle it back onto the trailer. Some guys were pretty reckless with their safety to solve this problem but luckily no one was hurt. Had heard stories about stuff like this happening but had never seen it before. Boat couldn't have sustained much damage because they launched it and went fishing. So all in all a great outcome to something that started out looking pretty bad.
Now on to fishing....we ended up putting our 3 halibut limit in the boat along with 4 really nice lings, all fish were probably in the ~12-15lb range expect one halibut was probably ~25-30 lbs. We had to work pretty hard to put these fish in the boat hence the 3 ranking. All morning we were worried that a skunk was coming our way then we moved to a whole different area and put the 7 fish in the boat in about 2 hrs. We were fishing cut plugs on a spreader in ~280-380' of water. There was a strong current that made staying in contact with the bottom difficult even with 3-4lb weights. Ocean conditions weren't bad though which was nice, the swell and wind waves didn't pick up until the afternoon when we were almost done anyway.
Fun day of fishing! Love Neah Bay, hope to be back out there soon! Tight lines all!
