Fished today with Gringo Pescador and a co-worker, Robbie. We launched out of Shilshole and had lines down at 6:55am. HT was 9:45. Winds light-mod out of the south, temp 50s. Cloudy to start, and clearing as the day progressed.

My plan was to run up a bit toward Richmond Beach and trolled back to Shilshole with the incoming tide, and then head over to West Point and fish this area for the slack tide bite. We ran two downriggers and a center Deep 6 rod. Flashers and hoochies in various colors and sizes, and herring strips with my secret sauce, well brined for two days. Depths varied from 30-110 feet on the riggers as we went in search of the biters.

The morning was slow, and disappointing. I was really hoping to get Robbie into a hot saltwater coho bite but the fish were just not cooperating. We trolled waters in close to out to the shipping lane. Kept things zinging along at 3-3.6mph. Nada. At 8:30 we landed a 4 pounder at 55 feet of cable just south of West Point. Large green sparkle flasher with magnum pearl glow hoochie. Slack tide was dead, no action today. Lot’s of fish being marked but no willing takers.

Turned north with the outgoing tide, more of the same. Lot’s of fish being marked but no takers. Then, about the time we got to Meadow Point the sun came out and the bite switched on. What the heck? 11am and we started getting action. Gringo landed one at 110 feet on the DR, small red flasher and small green glow hoochie. Then Robbie started getting some action, unfortunately we couldn’t get one stuck. We all lost fish until the bite died off and we called it a day at 1pm.

So only two fish for us. Fish checker reported 28 coho for 22 boats when we came in, so it seemed to be tough for most. Broke my streak of three saltwater boat limits. Dang.

I know you are expecting a higher standard now a days but we did better than many out there, it never rained, and waters were calm. Thanks for the day Mike, I needed the distraction and salt air.
