The morning started out great, glass calm on the run out and we were on the bait instantly. After gathering up a few nice dabs we headed to work over a few of my favorite reefs in 55-70' of water.

First drift I am down all of 30 seconds and the dabbie goes nuts, then the rod almost gets ripped out of my hand. After about 30 seconds the fish came unhooked. I rebait and the second my weight hit bottom it was fish on again. After a nice 5 minute battle on the steelhead rod a WAY oversize lingcod was at the side of the boat, cut the leader and sent her on her way. As I am releasing that fish my buddy hooks up and boats a nice 25" ling, but we were looking for the larger end of the scale. On the second drift I hooked up two more times but couldnt get them to stick, but third times a charm. Half way through the drift the rod does the happy dance then buries. Quick tussel and a 35.25" ling cod is on deck. I was punched out for the day so it was up to my buddy to land the last one. Two drifts later and it was on with another 33" on the deck. Wrapped it up and headed home.
