What a difference 5 days make.... (see Seahawk Sunday why did we even launch the boat in that rough water and putz about for 5 hours and not even a flounder). As we launch the boat out of Shilshole Marina we ask the fish counter and a charter guide what is today's magic depth. Counter says "About 62". Guide says "50 and up". I look at my friend (who is 56ish) and say "Looks like you can't go fishing today."

We head out semi-following the charter and start fishing in front of the marina are in about 430 feet water. Green splatter back hoochies with herring strips and laced in smelly jelly - with green flasher (or in my case the racing stripe one). Depths fished was between 52 and 58 feet. I tie my friends setup first and he gets his gear to his chosen depth. I'm about to set my gear down when his rod bounces about. Minutes later the first fish is in the boat. A 6 lb hen.

As I said what a difference 5 days make.

We putter about... I've checked and reset my gear. Friend is back at the same depth. He makes a semi-sharp turn to head back where the first fish was caught. My line pops off and the rod bounces. Second later his dances as well. We have a double and this boat isn't made for 2 people in the back. I will land mine. His will pop off at the boat. Between 9 and 10 lb buck. Bonk, bleed, clean out, and ice you go dude. Mask my card while friend whines about lost chances. Back down he goes. I'm putzing about when his rod again pops. 7lb male and his day is done. He says we are going back in and I say no I get to limit out as well. I swear my rod started doing the bouncy bounce about 15 minutes after (8lb buck) and our day was done.

Quickest day of the season. Made up for that crappy Sunday and even worse Tuesday at Shipwreck (after hearing get the boat out and follow the others) - we did and nothing happened. We saw no fish caught that day either.

But then again it is called fishing and not catching.
