9/22/2014 8:28:00 AMWhen I first took him I was worried about what it would be like for him. The first year we went out on the Slammer, and the captain uses light spinning gear to catch rockfish, and that worked out great for my son. This year we went on a different boat and the rockfishing was tough for him. We were running a full pound of lead with two shrimp flies, and after pulling a couple of doubles up, he was pretty well exhausted.

9/22/2014 9:51:00 AMNice catch! My son also has issues with the physical part of deep water ocean fishing. Hard for him to reel a fish in...I usually give him a bit of assistance by hand lining just enough to get him past his sticking point...but I agree, he's worn out pretty quick. He pulled in a 21 pounder this year and was beat!

9/28/2014 3:34:00 PMAgreed! I love seeing anglers post fishing reports with their kids. I have a little daughter and it would be nice to see anglers fishing with their daughters too, as well as their sons. I would hate the day when my daughter says she doesn't like fishing because it is just a "boys" sport. She's able to grab things now so I think someone will be getting a new fishing rod for their birthday soon. :)
