Took a last minute charter with captain Nick of All star charter to hunt for some lingcod. Never fished for them so I figured I'd leave it to the pros. Started the morning fishing for bait, small flounder and bullheads. Hit the honey hole by 7:00 and started getting action minutes in. Contrary to what I'm use to I got my first bite and with a barb less circle hook I was instructed not to set the hook so he could swallow the bait. It seemed like he played with it for almost five minutes then he bolted and nearly pulled the rod out of my hands. I let it rip set the hook and the fight was on. Landed my first Ling ever a nice 11lb keeper. One of the others on the boat ended up snagging some 50 braid so we hand lined it in and it got heavy, must have been about 300 yards of line then it started moving. Pulled in a spreader bar, 2lb sinker, and a monster ling. I caught one more keeper before we called it a day but I forgot to snap a pic. Primarily fished 50' to 80' of water bouncing off the bottom.

Nice! You guys sound like the exception to the rule lately as far as catching fish. Guess those charter guys know what they are doing :)

I'm wondering if the captain asked you to hide the actual places where you fished or did the hot spot map get it wrong? The places you have marked are no where near 80 ft deep water - more like 300' + You would have needed to be much closer to either shore to be that shallow. Not giving you a hard time, just curious :)

Nice job, I can't wait to try my luck out there. Sounds like a good idea paying a guide and then going a second round on your own boat....hmm. Nice fish congrats.

If you know the area, the photos are a dead giveaway to where they are.
