Stayed the weekend at Roche harbor and fished lime kiln Saturday & Sunday morning at high tide. Was targeting chinook but just couldn't get away from the pinks. They are in strong already. Tried 40 - 90 ft of water and still couldn't get away from them. It wasn't until a large Orca pod came charging through the area (both days at the same time) that the pinks stopped biting.

We limited out on Pinks (going into the smoker) and crab both days but no silvers or chinooks on the hook. Overall, awesome weekend, wish I could have stayed longer.

What were the picks hitting, I will be fishing pink in salt for the first time the week and wondering what the best best rigging might be. Thanks Bob

They will hit most usual salmon gear, but a white flasher followed by a small pink squid ( 16" leader between flash/and squid) trolled very slow will get em for sure. Shallow just below surface to start the day, then go maybe 60' max deep during the day. If you got a fish on leave the other gear down if possible, they will hit that too. Bleed them quickly and ice them. No downrigger, no problem. Use bananna weights or a diver, these fish can be found in the upper part of the water. Look for schooling fish on the surface and cast buzz bombs or spoons (pink color also)

Have you ever barbecued a fresh pink out of the saltwater? They are not as good as a king or silver obviously, but they are pretty damn good!

No there not but if bled and iced ASAP there great and if red meat even better. Even in the river on fresh fish coming up. Thanks for these reports guys, I'm about ready to hit it.

My plan with any pinks caught this year is to throw them on the smoker.

Just jumping in here but if you want good flavor with fish you can always partial smoke em on the grill and enjoy a good smoky flavor. I haveyet to do for pinks in the ocean.. no sea worthy boat :(. I wish you all happy fishing.
