Well, this day of fishing started off hopeful, but ended up a tough time out there.

I took another "NW Fishing Reports" friend along for part of a "Meetup" group that was going to the Westport Jetty...
At least I thought that was the destination.
We spent the night in Grayland. In the early morning we began fishing Surf Perch on the Grayland beach. This was the highlight of the day. We were pretty successful with catching these fish, although the majority were smaller than I've ever seen. After retaining 3, we headed out to the Westport Jetty.
The bait of choice on the Red Tailed Surf Perch was the Gulp Sandworms. No more dealing with clams for me. These Gulp products stay on the hook!
As it turned out, I completley mis-understood the Jetty destination. My Meetup group went to the Ocean Shores North Jetty.
Byron and I though started fishing W. Port Jetty.
We through 2-3 oz. jig heads with curly grubs, swim baits, drop shotted Berley shrimp, and some similar stuff to a Point Wilson dart.
Byron had a couple hard bumps, and lost a large fish that caught some air. We thought it may been a salmon, but was thrashing to much to tell. I lost a decent fish to a leaded item similar to a Point Wilson Dart.

It was very slow out there. Very windy. I think the Jetty has officially kicked my butt, and I don't think I will do this one again.
It is a young man's fishery...!!

Sounds like I wasn't the only one that had fun on a jetty this weekend. :) my report will follow in a bit.
