An Area 7 report!?! Launched out of Washington Park around 7:30 and headed for my favorite area and was not disappointed. Lines down around 8:00 and had a nice 6 lb hatchery coho in the cooler soon afterward. Ended up catching and releasing a bunch of ling cod for the next couple of hours including one that was an easy 25 pounds and about 40ish inches in length. What happened next I will never live down...

Around noonish the port side rod started bouncing and I told the wife to grab it and reel it in. She was soon struggling with the fish and it started ripping line. After probably 7-8 minutes we finally got a glimpse of the flasher and the fish behind it. It was big and soon proceeded to rip another 50 feet of line out. She eventually got the fish in and I netted it. Easy 20 plus pound...chum. Knowing that we can't keep chum we let it go. I got all the rods back in the water and we kept trolling. Pulled out the rule book to show my wife a picture of a spawning chum with the vertical stripes that I could faintly see on my wifes recently released fish and oops... As of 4 days ago, we could have kept that chum. To say she was not very happy is putting it mildly...She is never going to let me forget this day lol.

Ended up with a nice 8 pound coho not long after and then time to head back home. All coho and the chum caught on small blue ace hi fly trolled behind a dodger. Still had a great day out on the water and action all day long.

Oh man a 20 pound chum would go nicely in the smoker. No better smoking fish imo.
