10/14/2007 7:52:00 PMacctualy there is a big difference, first there genetics, steelhead have larger mouth's and travle to the ocean, what you caught was most likely a hatchery silver or steelhead

10/14/2007 8:22:00 PMSteelhead are saltwater rainbows. They spend the year in teh saltwater, and they return year after year to spawn in the rivers and unlike salmon, they do not die after spawning.

10/14/2007 9:59:00 PMyeah, i'm pretty sure it was a small steelhead, as I didnt see any color to the mouth, but that is the only real difference i'd notice. Any other characteristics to look for to show a difference? Also, the regs say that they (hatchery steelhead) may have their ventral fins clipped. I had no idea that they did that, so I didnt even inspect those.
