Oh what an hour and a half of fishing. I didn’t bring home any fish but I think this was a great day, maybe the best so far. The water is clear and receding. I didn’t get there until 3:15 because I was a grandma babysitting today.
The head water was where I was going but there was a guy already fishing there so I choose my #2 spot. Then 3 guys that were there yesterday came to the head and started hooking chums right away. Foul hooking, I think they may have hooked one in the mouth.
I saw salmon breaking water where I was fishing. I wasn’t getting anything. I pulled in my corky and yarn and there was a scale on the point of the hook. Nothing was taking the eggs on the corky-yarn combo. Therefore I changed hooks to a pink-purple corky with a purple yarn with shrimp smell. About the second cast I hooked a fish and the reel started singing. WOW this is fun! It was headed toward the opposite bank from me and all the fish in that spot started boiling the water. Then it headed toward the branches over by that bank. “Oh no, I gotta keep it out of there” I thoughht. I reeled and pulled so it headed into the current. After a short time I tried to get it up the bank the way I have all the others. This fish’s head was out of the water lying on the bank-the line breaks and he knew he was free. Off he goes in a watery cloud of sand. He was a big silver I estimate about 12 lbs. the coloring of the fish I have as an avatar. He still has my hook in his mouth. I was sorry to see him go but what a great fight!!!!
