Wow! I have never fished this river before and I had a couple of fish on in a half hour then nothing. I lost my first hook on a something in the river. So I put on a mid size pink and white cheater with fluorescent pink yarn. I noticed the line was a little frayed but I thought “oh well I’m not going to catch anything” so I left it on, casting out a little ways out and it swung toward the bank. I hooked a small silver fish (16 to 18 inches). It jumped once in the air and ran into the current and ran and ran and ran and ran. “Oh my” I thought “I won’t have any line left” so I put my hand on the line to stop it and lost the fish! It broke exactly where I thought it would. I reeled all that line back, put on a new hook and corky set up. It was red with chartreuse yarn, again mid sized. I hooked another fish right in front of me. This one was bigger-maybe 24 inches. It also was silver with a white belly. It rolled on top of the water and unhooked itself. I kept casting but didn’t get anything else. I walked down further trying to find another place to fish but didn’t hook anything else. The river was fast and cloudy with water visibility about 3 inches.

sounds like some winter-run steelhead. your luck will soon get better because at some time they have to stay on the hook!.

great job

what part of the puyallup. was it in orting or off river road. They sound like silvers. Italk to some people out in orting and they say we still have a couple of weeks befor steelhead come up. They also said that there should be another late push of silvers comeing when the water drops a little

I was right across from the mouth of theCarbon on the Puyallup. So it was before even getting to Orting. They acted like Silvers but they were very bright. One has to watch the river flows and know the river to know when it is fishable or not. This spot went down about a foot or seemed to from yesterday at 2pm to 9am this morning. I use the USGS (think that is the intials) real time data to see were the flow is and then looking at it as well. No fish today but I only stayed an hour cause I had to work in the afternoon.

They could be silvers or some hatchery brats....Maybe even some small chum...

Salmon Slayer,
These rivers have dropped pretty fast lately and are near great shape...
