It was my first time to this river so it was more of a scouting trip with just a little time on the water. I did get a little
time in at the boat launch at bear creek and found a nice spot just up river from the launch. I found what looks like a few other good spots along that stretch and am planning to go back in a week or so. I did manage to talk to a couple of fishermen at the launch and one said he caught one what he thought to be about 15lbs (but I didn't see the fish)

I don't really know what high is for this river but I don't think it is really high. One of the guys I talk to said it was still a little high but it seems just fine to me. I read somewhere that it is best fished when runninig at 2800cfm or lower. I when to the state water flow site but it did not show Sol Duc. Here is a link for the Oly Penn real time flow charts: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/wa/nwis/current/?type=olympics&group_key=basin_cd Maybe if your familiar with the surrounding rivers you could determine somewhat by what they're flowing at. Again it was my first trip and it looked inviting to me (just like you would expect to see in pictures of guys kneeling on river rock holding a hawg!) I'm expecting to go again thursday or friday so I'll post another report (and hopefully a photo!) BTW: I read a Oly Penn report on another site (for steelhead) and they seem to say things are getting just right precluding any heavy rain. I hope that helps.
