I took into account the high tide low tide aspect of how the fish might come up the river, therefore I thought I should get there by 10am. I got there 11 am. Only an hour late. I went through the campground to the tenting area. The river was cloudy at about 5-6 inch visibility and just under 1200 CFS. Shortly after I got there a guy left and he had a fish. While I was there 11am-1:30pm there were about 16 people fishing I saw 5 fish hooked. The 2 closest to me were caught by one guy and he said he was lucky. They were beautiful fish and bright. Two guys said I had a good spot and they had caught fish there before. In fact, they said it had been on fire a couple of days earlier but it was slow now. That is the way it was for me. I didn’t get much of anything. The one good thing, I didn’t loose any gear and I tried out a new reel.

Do you have to pay to get into the camprground? My friend and I tried under the bridge yesterday around 2-3. No one around us were catching any. I checked out the handicap area and didnt see anyone catch any either- pretty muddy.

Yes, to go through the camp ground to fish costs $6.00. I fished a ways above the gravel bar you were at.
The road to the gravel bar is muddy and one part is steep but you could then drive on to the bar. I only have front wheel drive car so I am not going to try it.

are you talking about the gravel bar that is Ft. Lewis permit only? We drove down there, luckily a nice gentleman advised us we would get a ticket for parking there!! and someone else told us we couldnt park at the handicap area also??? so we just parked along the road by the bridge.

The gravel bar I was talking about is not on Ft. Lewis. You can park at the handicap hole. It is a WDFW area. Go to the river reports for Nisqually River and see pictures of it. You can no longer drive to the gravel bar from the handicap hole. You can park at the handicap hole and walk to the gravel bar. It is up river just past the tressel. If you go to the camp ground there is a road that goes to the gravel bar on the other side of the tressel from the handicap hole. I think that is what the people were thinking is that you can't get to the gravel bar from the handicap hole in a vehicle.
