I fished the Naches yesterday, and fishing was pretty good. We started at about 11, below the confluence, near Rowe Farms. I started the day fishing a #10 Prince Nymph, caught one Rainbow, small, about 8" and had several hits. I later switched to a Bugmeister, and caught about 6 more Trout, ranging from 6 to 14". I like to prospect with large surface dries in the lower river, fishing the many side channels, created by spring flooding for the lower rivers larger fish. After spending about 4 hours at this spot, we moved upriver, about three miles above the confluence.I swtiched to a #6 Daves Hopper. The water is lower, and more clear here then below, because of the milky, higher water created by the Tieton River at the confluence. This upper stretch contains more Westslope Cutthroat, aswell as some hybrids known as "Cuttbows", that like to hide in the upper rivers pocket water. We fished this spot until 5 o'clock, and caught about 15 fish between myself and my Dad, including the nice Westslope Cuttthroat pictured above. The upper rivers largest fish, almost always Westslopes, can be found in the deeper pocket water and the deepest pools. Overall, the Naches is quality river, sometimes overlooked by the Yakima, and definatley holds some quality fish. It is highly reccomended.
