I found a nice secluded spot at the Handicap hole, a few anglers here and there, but not as crowded as prior trips. I was using small chartreuse corky, tuft of yellow yarn and 3/8 oz bass casting weight with 4 feet of leader. About 5 minutes into getting the flow and drift, FISH ON! The fish took me immediately down river, taking a good amount of line with it. I was guessing it was a Silver right away by how many times it leapt out of the water. I played the fish and was able to pull it near the bank so I could grab the tail. I don't know how much it weighed, but it measured a tight measure of 29 inches.
My next cast I foul hooked a nice Humpy and let it go after a brief battle. An hour later, I hook into a pig. I looked upriver and downriver from me, and we all had fish on. I lost mine after 20 minutes. I said a few choice words out loud and a couple feet in front of me my fish with my setup springs out of the water. I don't speak "fish", but I am sure it was saying, "Next time check your knicks on your line!! See ya!!"

Nice. Love it when the fish flaunt it in your face.

Was the spot the place where you have to walk in through the trail or just on the gravel pit by the handicap hole? Haven't tried the walk in trail area but heard it's good, might try it sometime.

Thanks Mav!
Jbball50- there is a trail that you mention, but I am not sure if you are referring to the military side? You need the DOD pass or be in the military to fish on that side.
We have been fishing about 25 yards upriver from where everyone else fishes. There is a huge deep pool, that they have been holding up at. There is 3 pools that will usually be occupied, but the one I fish is usually free. Pretty snaggy, but worth it when you get a fish on...

Oh I was thinking of the other area of fishing, on the 2nd left after the Mounts Bridge Road haha. I do know there's a good hole right on the upper side of the Mount's Bridge. Are the silvers starting to show up more steadily now?

Jball50- do you mean taking a left on 6th? right before the gas station? Yes, we fish there. The fishing has slowed from last week, but maybe with the rains, will bring in more fish..from the time I was there, just me and another guy landed any fish. Pm me sometime and let me know when you are going, I only live 15 minutes from the river...

Jens that was a great report! What would really make it fun is if Joel catches that fish with your stuff still in its mouth. LOL

Knowing Kinghunter, he wouldn't give me back my gear. He's pretty stingy. LOL
