I fished Whatcom Creek for a few hours Sunday midday through afternoon. Fishing the chum off the seawall was a first for me and I ended up there because the Nooksack was a running high. I started with a green and silver metallic corky/purple yarn combo and after a number of gear adjustments ended up fishing flame red yarn. I felt very uncomfortable up in the shoulder to shoulder snag fest by the falls so I focused my efforts down at the corner. I hooked 13 fish 2 were foul hooked and the balance were hooked in the mouth or on the head. I fought about 6 of them and of those; the seals had their way with most of them. Two fish ended up in the collection tube.

I may give the area another try, maybe fishing a float/jig combo from the far side. Even for a combat fishery it is a pretty competitive fishery. There was lots of yelling at each other and elbow throwing. In fact one poor guy, an older gentleman hooked a fish at the same time as one of the teenagers fishing the area and the two fish got wrapped up with each other. The kid kept yelling at the guy to cut his line and the older guy was completely overwhelmed. The kid who had already snagged a number of fish ended up cutting the other persons line and the poor guy was devastated. Not fun to watch!

This is why I started using a lil sidearm fling. People usually stay 8 ft or so away from my right shoulder. If they dont theyll end up with a hook in em. As for people cutting lines. This is something that is totally uncalled for and its never happened to me but I would have to send someone down river for that one.

Too bad the idiot in the village has to spoil it for someone (likely more than one).
Next time you see an idiot mouthing off and doing something like breaking off someone else's line (for a snagged chum no less), go up to the victim and give him/her some free gear.

If the idiot gets too unruly you can always call police.

Another fun one to try if the idiot is there all the time is to set yourself up with heavy braided line.
Don't even try to fish, just notice that when said idiot calls 'coming down' that your line 'accidentally' crosses theirs.
Then tug wildly at it to get it free LOL. Assuming they have snagged the fish. If they get a legit hookup I'd even give the idiot a break...

IMO only.

Tight lines.

You might draw a few cheers from the regulars...
