Yesterday, me and buddy Brian hit up the YaKima River for a little fly trip. The water was about 4-5 ft of visiblilty and a bit chilly. Sun was out in full force, but that damn wind bothered us all day. We started at The Evening Hatch fly shop just off I90 in Ellensburg.
The owner of the shop hooked us up with some good infornmation and showed us a few flies that were working. Since I'm new to the fly world I just sat back and listened and tried to keep up with the whole conversation :) Paid the guy to ferry out truck and trailer to
Umptanum from Ringer and we were off! The nyphs were not panning out the first part of our trip, so I decided to go with a dry fly. Within a few minutes I was getting hits on the surface. Next thing I knew I was hooked up with the beautiful trout in the pic. It's funny,
once I started salmon and stealhead fishing I didn't think I'd be excited again about landing 12inchers. I was wrong! There is something about watching a fish hit the fly that gives you an adrenaline rush. I had about three other takes with decent fish the rest of the day but
just couldn't keep them on. At one point I let go of my line with a nice fish on....rookie. My friend Brian hooked into a 20+ incher. That fish had the rod doubled over and when it came up and rolled the hook came untied. Too bad, I'm not sure we had a net big enough for
that one. I guess that was "the one that got away".We seen four other drift boats and a few anglers on the side of the road. Good times were had and for only my second fly trip I was pretty happy with productivity. I really need to work my technique as my buddy Brian could
get that fly anywhere he wanted and I would just lucky to not spook the fish :) The Yakima is turning into one of my favorite rivers for trout.

just waiting for it to heat up down there. Sounds like it has. Nothing beats the sun over on the eastside though. Makes for an enjoyable ride on any body of water :)

Nice job! Regardless of size/species, you are fishing my friend. Stay thirsty?
