Fished the POR the 21st and 22nd and had a great time. Went out with my pup Jake and went to a pretty solid spot of mine. I usually always pull a fish out of it but never more then 2. Anyway didn’t have a hit or even see a follow (the day before a friend pulled a 14lber out of it C&R). Anyway after not getting any action at my go to spot I was a little worried. Then we headed down to a spot that looks like it would produce some nice pike but all I’ve caught there this summer were a few hammer handles and some nice bass. Anyway made a dozen casts or so with no luck and decided to make one more before I left because the wind was picking up. And you know when you are like, wow that cast was perfect I have to catch one this time...well I did This big one came up and nailed it. It took me right into some thick weeds so I motored over with the trolling motor and then it shot out under the boat and got tied up in the trolling motor.... Panic was starting to set in while I was ripping piles of weeds off my line with one hand and keeping my line tight with the other. I had to repeat this process about 3 times and then turned the trolling motor back on and got out into some deeper water as the wind picked up and blew me down the river. After several long runs I finally was able to get him next to the boat when I proceeded to tell my 7 month old lab to get the net ( he woke up from his nap and was a little confused about all of the activity and excitement going on in the boat. I slipped the net under the beauty and turn on the live well. Motored the boat back to the cabin took some nice photos and some measurements and weighed him on a pretty cheap digital scale and set him free. I wanted to mount him, I do like the real vrs the replicas but they have come a long way. However after making a quick call to a taxidermist I realized that it was going to be way $$ So I decided to let him go and I will probably get a replica made in a year or two! He was 42.5 X18.75 a real Giant. I’ve been meaning to look it up but the cheap digital scale had him at 23.5 and I know he was all of that. My PMB Pike Hopefully Someone will catch him in another 2 or 3 years when he might be the new state record

Great fish and congrats. Nice job on getting it in by yourself. You can always calculate a fishs weight by the formula of girth x girth x length divided by 800. If you try to weigh those big girls you have a chance of dislocating their spines from their heads their just to big to weigh on a scale. Always remember keep them fish horizontal and in the water as long as you can. The pictures perfect of how to photograph them. Thanks for putting back the big fish its the only way the PO River will ever become a trophy fishery.Congrats again

Heck of a fish Xwisconyfisherman!!! So glad you put that fish back!! Like Craig said it will do wonders for the preservation of a trophy fishery. A fish like that has the great genes to pass along no to mention up to 750,000 eggs to deposit during the spawn. Anyway congrats again, I will truly miss the POR. Try LAX for a replica mount. They did a fantastic job on my Tiger Muskie and from the photos look like they do a heck of pike too!!

Congrats again

Xwisconyfisherman, I think his prices went up recently. last I saw they were like 12.75 or 12.95 per inch. Kind of pricey, but well worth it for sure. I plan on making a trip up there 1 per year and I will definitely let you know when I am in the area for some POR pike fishing.

Lucius-
What city is he in. I called 4 people around Deer Park and Spokane and they were way high like 18-22$ an inch!

Good God, Dan.....what a fish! He eats our Medical Lake rainbows for breakfast, lunch and dinner! And you look a bit more comfortable than those days when you were submerged in 45-degree water up to your hips! That boat sure beats your tube!!! Take care and see ya around. Congrats!

Mark K is right with the website. If and when you get your replica, tell them that Buddy with Chapter 57 sent you. They are one of our great supporters of Chapter 57 and are graciously donating a free replica mount for the 24 hour Curlew Esoxaganza for the biggest fish caught at 50" or bigger. When you get your mount you have to post pictures of it on the site. Congrats again!
