After a great day of Salmon fishing on the Columbia on 10/06/2010, I thought I would go up to the Pend Oreille River to catch some LMB with three friends. Launched out of Cusic and hedaded North 15 minutes to an unknown slew on the East side of the river. Started of with a couple of dink LMB, then my friends wife Gina hooked into a 18.2 lb Pike. Her largest freshwater fish ever and she had a blast landing it (see picture). In total we ending boating 6 pike and a few smallies and 3 LMBs.
The 18 lbs Pike was caught on a finesse worm by Berkely, and a second pike was caught on a 4" Senko. I didn't know pike went after plastics. The other 4 Pike ranged from 5-8 lbs, and were caught on spinnerbaites, 3 on a chartreuse, and one on red. The smallies were caught on 4" black senkos. Fishing came in spurts, but overall a very good day of fishing. I caught my first Pike ever and enjoyed it very much, tho the fish are slimy as heck, and my boat needs a thorough cleaning.

PS Does anyone knows what/when triggers the fall bite for LMBs?

Pat,
Nice job landing those pike on the plastics. I catch a lot of pike on plastics. As you probably know, they can make short work of monofilament line with those sharp teeth. You can save a lot of gear if you tie on a 30lb or larger flourocaarbon leader and attach that to your worm hooks or spinner baits. They have a tougher time biting through the flouro and it doesn't show up as much as if you used a steel leader. Make sure your East side slough is farther north than the riverbend area unless it is Campbell. Between the bridge at Usk and Riverbend, the only slough non tribal fishermen can fish on that side is Campbell slough. I was up there that day as well. We found the pike but not the big one like you got. Nice going. Happy fishing

To AJ'S DAD- WE were actually fishing on the West side of the river. I think Pat gets so excited while fishing he gets himself turned around : )

Pete Heley is writing a Washington bass book and had some questions about several of your reports. I don't give member e-mail addresses out so I was wondering, if your interested, would you give him a contact? His e-mail is:
