BUT.......i already do not like the amount of rude ass people ive had to deal with! i have never seen the likes before. the river really isnt big enough it seems. thats why i went up to the place i did....to fish in peace and be the only one there! maybe it takes gettin used to?

11/17/2010 11:27:00 PMFrom one basser to another, right on, buddy! My lack of knowledge of salmon fishing can't help you as I too am relatively new to targeting salmon. Every time I read the regs and memorize the things that differentiate one species of salmon from another at home, I forget by the time I arrive at the river. Congrats on your first catch. As Nate said, it only gets worse from here. Bass fishing will always be in my heart, but for the rest of my life, I have to give the salmon its due and fish for them too. :)

11/18/2010 3:20:00 AMBass stopped biting with the cold front on Desire? Good work man...glad to see you get into some salmon this year too. Just a heads up tho...It looks like that may be a native Chinook...and you aren't supposed to take those out of the water at all. No harm, no foul, but that would have been a fat ticket! You can tell Chinook because of the all black mouth they have inside, but I can't be sure from the pic. Looks like the river was flowin pretty good.

11/18/2010 5:25:00 AMPursell that most definantly is a coho buck hence the large hook nose, which I believe may be retained on this river. Good work

11/18/2010 11:10:00 AMThat's a very dark male native coho (silver). Good thing you released it, it would be good only for smoking, and that's considering you use a strong brine to add flavor.

11/18/2010 10:10:00 PMthanks all for the comments. i was pretty sure that it was a coho even with my limited knowledge. i was never planning on keeping anything that day anyhow no matter what i caught. after i seen that it was native i was especially eager to return it to the water. i handled the fish ever so gently throughout the unhooking and pic process. have fun out there.

11/19/2010 4:19:00 PMLooks like that downed tree would possibly make for a nice little pocket of water to fish behind by breaking the current if the water was deep enough :-) No idea if that's where U hooked it though, the water in the background looks FAST for salmon. Good job on identifying the fish too for a newby! Some salmon can get pretty strange looking/hard to identify sometimes.

11/19/2010 4:45:00 PMactually i was castin into the current above a nice breakwater on the other side of the river and letting it go down through. you cant see the spot in the pic but it looked like a good place for a fish to hang out. i might just have to go try my luck again this weekend. dont know what ill catch but its better than sitting at home.

11/19/2010 7:13:00 PMYep the river has come down a fair amount for the weekend. Should be some fish that will start finding places to settle. And with the colder drier weather next week the dam flows should probably be fairly tame.
