Had the day off so i went down to the Puke for the first time this year and the madness has already started. First off the fishing is inconsistent. There are fish to be had but you gotta put some work in. Every now and then a wave will come thru and the hooks up will increase for about 20 minutes but i would still call it slow for pinks.

I got there at 5:45am and there were already 50 people standing on the bar fishing. I stood around and watched for a few as more people streamed in. Decided to move as i walked out i noticed there was trash all over the bank. How hard is it to pack out your trash? I moved just across the river were there are alot less people and the fishin isnt as good.

Got to watch a guy fall in the river because he didnt move out of the way of a kid who hooked up a fish. The line of guys fishin kept growing and i counted 70+ at one time. They started cutting off the drift of the people who moved upstream to get away from the crowd on there side of the river and cutting off the people on the opposite side that included myself and 2 others. The guy at the very top of the line got hooked in the leg by an upstream fisherman and that started a shouting match. They guy upstream just wanted them to step back 10 or 15 feet so they could fish also but nobody moved. The upper part of the line was to far out on the bar and they were standing right on top of the slot were the fish would be running. Myself and the two others were forced to move upstream after a few cross stream tangles. One guy across the way was motioning we needed to move. Funny thing was we were there hours before they them. One of the guys next to me snagged a bunch of old line like 100+ feet of it. He left soon after and just tossed the mess of tangled line on the bank. The final straw was a kid moved in 5 feet to my left and proceded to try and fish with a trolling reel and halibut pole. He couldnt cast a lick with it and was way out of control. The best he could do was maybe 10 feet which was right on top of my line as i drifted because he wouldnt move up parallel to me in the water.

In summary if ya go pick up your trash, get out of the way if somebody has a fish on, and above all be respect those around you, please.

No offense to any of the salmon guys but why in the heck would you want to deal with 50+ other guys in the same exact spot? Doesn`t seem like fun to me hoping and praying a fish bites yours instead of the other 50 it`s seen already. Again no offense to each is own.

This is exactly why I wait for the salmon/steelhead to hit the upper Snake/ Clearwater. MUCH BETTER to ditch the crowds/idiots and have a real fishing experience. I'd probably shoot someone if I had to deal with that BS.

This makes me not even want to go tomorrow hahah. Ive never fished the Puyallup, but have fished the Green. Green River doesnt sound as bad as that, at least the spots i've been to.

What a joke. All for some slimy, oily humpies that are only good for fertalizing your garden. Just wait for the yahoos to stop flossing, they'll get bored when they actually have to fish

Was going to make it today but stuff got in the way and after reading this, I think I'll be waiting until Monday to avoid the space wars.

DannyHoey you hit the nail on the head. Its funny the water visibilty is like 6 inches tops but ever guy out there is running a 7 to 8 foot leader. One kid had a leader so long he couldnt even land his fish it must have been 12 feet long. Its gonna be a zoo this weekend.

I think there should be a river clean up by the sportsmen after the salmon runs every year or every other anyway. The problem I have seen in the past is that most of these Pinky fisherman are not sportsmen(They think they are cause they bought new waders and boots ) and dont really care for the resource so it gets abused with litter and rudeness.Sorry for your bad experience..

Start the Colliopy music, the circus has began. Too bad the Pinks and Chinook don't run during the winter when the snow and rain is going sideways. You wouldn't have these hairbrains on the river, not to mention their gene pool of offsprings tagging along.

Wow if that got a three rating what gets a one? It sucks that people don't havethe common courtesy to pick up their trash. My fishing partner and I usually take a bag full off the banks whenever we go to a river. One thing we all need to keep in mind is that the pink run draws all kinds of people to the river with the hope of catching a fish. This means our patience and understanding levels have to be high. If someone cuts off your run explain the ettiquite of the river, if you see someone struggling or using the wrong gear try to help them. If you don't like pinks don't fish for them. If you are going to fish for them expect crowds, amateurs, and bring a trash bag to help clean up after the idiots who won't do it for themselves.
