Went back to the Puke today from 8am-1pm, I went 3-6 today on all pinks. Saw the usual faces and usual coho chasers releasing all pinks. One of my pinks today was still chrome, guess they are still trickling it. My partner caught a chrome one as well

Towards the end of my trip today, things got very interesting. We all see a boat coming upstream real fast and everyone was like what the heck is going on. They beach the boat and dump a giant fish box on the beach. Then one guy does a ceremony where he put something in the river and looked up in the sky and said something on the lines of "mother earth". They push the boat back in the river and put thier nets in. The sporties on the beach just pulled thier lines in and watch, while one gentleman was screaming to kick the native's ass.

During thier first pass, they pulled up a huge long with tons of mono, hooks and corkies. At least they got that nasty snag out of the river. They make two more passes and they left on their way back downstream. I didnt get a good estimation of how many fish they took out, but I guess it was enough.
On one of thier passes, they boat was actually in between the line of guys in waders and the bank. Must of been scary having that boat behind ur back.

In native spiritual beliefs they believe we are all related...not just humans but all things from animals to rocks.
They ascribe power to the four directions...west, north, east, south and also father sky and mother earth.
Mother earth is who they thank for her generosity so the prayer they were offering probably ended with a thanks to Mother Earth.
We may not all agree with their methods but they see life different than we do and the more we understand, the more we can get along.

Agreed on the getting along, but running a gillnet between fishing people and shore? I would hope they at least gave a courteous 'we're gonna put the net in between you and shore if you want to move first'? Anyhow, hopefulyl it was all non incident related for all parties and a good day likewise. Thanx for the interesting report.

I could write some nasty things about that episode but I won't. They aren't making any friends that way.

I am going to be nice and not say much about the Indians. They are the ones that need to work on getting along with the rest of us.
I have seen problems on other areas and rivers. I one case the Indian game warden showed up and with out any provocation started a very threatening tirade on the rest of us. We were not on the reservation and had no idea what if any authority he had. To Mr. John, all I can say is so what. They need a little lesson in respect. I you want respect you have to give respect.

i would be pretty upset about that. what happens when you get a fish on and have to go back to shore and theres a net behind you? i call bullshit. there not catching those fish to eat, if you drive down by chambers they have big signs just selling them to people driving by.
