There is a fishing show called "seasons on the fly". A couple episodes ago a lady on there said "the tug is the drug". After a few trips getting skunded, I have been goin through some major withdraws. I decided I would try the skook today. I knew that the hatchery was probably packed so I fished down by I-5. I had been down there once a few years ago just looking, so I kinda had an idea of the layout. I just walked up high and started working my way down. After about 45 min. I hooked one. I was looking away when he hit, but That always happens to me, I just set and hope to feel head shaking. It ended up being a nice buck about 11 lbs. That was only fish for that section. I saw one guy walking buy but didn't talk to him.
I headed up river to Schafer park. There was a couple guys there but they didn't get anything. I saw one roll but couldn't get it to bite. That was enough for me so I headed home. I think the river was a little high but color was ok. When I scouted out the lower river a few years ago it was low and clear and didn't look as good as this time. I might go back there a few more times this year. Also, it was the usual bobber jig for me. I did self portrait with camera picture is ok.

I was using nightmare jig, but I used hot pink for body instead of red. It seems to stand out a little better in stained water. You can see jig in his mouth. I always put Mikes shrimp oil on also.

so where do you start fishing 'high' by I-5? do you go in at the park and by the boat launch- nice fish! also at Schafer where's a good slot to fish? when we were there the water was running pretty high which I am sure it is again with this present rain.. thanks for the report- we hit the south fork of the toutle last week but no fish

I'm not sure of the name of the park, but I was almost behind am/pm. There really is only one short section that I "liked". That is where I caught the fish. If you walk up as high as you can in park just fish down until can can't climb through the bushes any more. With the skook being so small river height will be biggest factor. The river gage at Bucoda was reading 6.8 but I think 6 in. lower would be about right. At shcafer park from the bridge down is the best. Above the bridge is all flat water and is hard to tell where fish are laying. I only fished at schafer park once about 3 years ago and it was my first time down at the lower part.

thanks! that sounds about where we fished too before heading up to the hatchery. I may try and get out there Wed. morning and was thinking of starting at hatchery and working my way down to I-5 with a stop at the Schafer.

Thanks for the info! good luck out there!
