I don't know what I'm doing wrong at this point, haha. I hit the river at 4:25 this morning, worked a half mile stretch in sultan with some decent looking fishy holes. I saw one fish hop out of the water to say hi to me early one, and then nothing!

I rated it a 2 because the sunrise was pretty nice, and I DID catch SOMETHING!

Can't believe this little sculpin swallowed the jig and shrimp whole, that's a 1/0 hook! Haha.

Thats steelheadin for ya. I would try downsizing to a small black jig and fish the head of the holes. Good luck.

I've never fished that river, but if it is anything like where I get my summer steelhead this is what I do;
Clear 8 pound main uni knotted to 3 to 4 feet of 6 pound fluorocarbon. Use a clear float (cleardrift floats are good, but I prefer adjust-a-bubbles with some water in them) and put on a 1/8 or 1/16th ounce jig in dark colors. I prefer a blood red jig head with double beads and a black tail, or black head with two beads and a black tail. There are a lot of darker colors that work, you just have to be confident and find what works for you!

Thanks guys, I'll give it a try again next week. Should I still be tipping my jigs with shrimp when using black or darker colors?

I don't tip my jigs at all.
